RESEARCH
Phase Analysis of Gated Blood Pool SPECT (GBPS) to Identify Responders of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy, Yale-New Haven Hospital (Laboratory of Dr. Albert Sinusas).
Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) with biventricular devices is effective in patients with advanced heart failure. Currently, the recommendations for this device include those with advanced heart failure, depressed systolic ejection fraction and widened QRS. However, the metrics (left ventricular ejection fraction and QRS measurement) are not always effective in determining which patients may respond to biventricular pacing.
In order to gain greater understanding of dyssynchrony and responders to resynchronization therapy we are studying phase analysis of gated blood pool SPECT. We will be recruiting patients with NYHA III-IV, wide QRS complex(>120 ms), and impaired left ventricular ejection fraction who will undergo GBPS before and after CRT. The specific aim of this study is to determine if dyssynchrony as measured by phase analysis of gated blood pool SPECT correlates with patients’ clinical response to CRT. (2009-2010).

Quantification of Ejection Rate, Filling Rate, and Left Ventricular Volumes: Comparision of Autoquant with 4DM-Spect and Emory Tool Box, University of Chicago (Laboratory of Dr. Kim Williams)
Study to assess variability between different software packages in calculating key cardiac parameters. Coordinating and analyzing data from a study of eighty patients involved in the comparative study. This study elucidated greater understanding of the interpretation and the applications of nuclear imaging (July 2005 to 2007).

Radiofrequency Energy, Orthopedic Department of Rush University (Laboratory of Dr. Brian Cole)
Coordinated a study and analyzed data to identify and characterize side effects associated with use of radiofrequency energy devices in rotator cuff repairs and anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions. Presented at American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Orlando, Florida, July 2002. Rush University Forum for Research and Clinical Investigation, Chicago, Illinois, April 2001. (June 2001 to January 2003).

Automation of Analysis in electroencephalography (EEG) epoch data, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Laboratory of Dr. Nitish Thakor)
Implemented a novel automated methodology of epilepsy detection in EEG data. (Summer 1997 to May 1998)
